Petrovic bids farewell to Thanh Hoá

HÀ NỘI  — Coach Ljupko Petrovic decided to separate with FLC Thanh Hoá just one day after the end of the V.League.

The Serbian trainer failed to lead the team to their first-ever national premier league trophy win, although Thanh Hoá received strong support and shopped a lot this season.

Thanh Hoá finished at second position with  四 八 points, behind champions Quảng Nam. It is their best result, so far, in their  一 七-year history at this competition.

Thanh Hoá president Doãn Văn Phương confirmed Petrovic’s departure. The Serbian was with Thanh Hoá for close to one year.

The  七0-year-old coach has  三 四 years’ experience in Europe, the Middle East and China.

Petrovic won the European Cup (now UEFA Champions League) with Red Star Belgrade in  一 九 九 一.

He also helped Beijing Guoan bag the Chinese FA Cup in  二00 三.

In May, he was unveiled as the new manager of Levski Sofia, replacing Stoycho Stoey. He left the club after five months.

Petrovic also managed Levski Sofia in  二000-0 一, winning the championship.

He said he was pleased with Thanh Hoá’s result and believed the team would be much better in the future.

He said he had received offers from non-Vietnamese clubs, however, he wanted to spend time with the family first before considering the invitations. — VNS
